Our new Student Pastor, Jimmy Higgins, has been with us for a few weeks now and we are so excited about the energy, enthusiasm and vision he is bringing to our Student Ministry. We know God has some exciting things planned for this ministry and we are grateful for the leadership Jimmy will bring to this team as we continue seeking to point our students to Jesus.

At the bottom of this post is the introduction video with Jimmy, but he wanted to share TEN fun facts that he thought you should know about him. Keep reading to find out! 

All about Jimmy… in Jimmy’s words:

1. I grew up in a small town northeast of San Diego.

2. I started working when I was about 13 years old with a paper route, and I’ve also been a dishwasher, pizza deliverer, construction worker, garbage truck driver, photographer, and even announced Blue Light Specials at Kmart.

3. My parents divorced when I was young and I was raised by my amazing mom. She brought me to church where I heard the gospel as a child and received a call to ministry as an adult.

4. I was an art major in college before I switched to Bible and Student Ministry.

5. I met my incredible wife, Michelle, at church in junior high, but didn’t date until we were college-age. We’ve been married for 25 years, and I love doing life with my best friend.

6. We have two children- our son is in college and our daughter is out of college and in her career. They have opposite interests, but both love the Lord and are equally amazing!

7. I have been in Student Ministry for about 23 years working with junior high, high school, and young adults. I love students’ energy and passion for life, and the fact that they can serve the Lord now and have a huge impact for Jesus.

8. As a parent of teenagers, I loved having them involved with student ministry and church as a whole. We have great family memories of worshipping, being on mission trips together, and seeing our kids serve in church with their gifts. I want to give other parents the same opportunities because it was so instrumental in my family’s spiritual growth.

9. For fun, my wife and I like to hike (but not camp), go to events with our kids, and find good local food. We like to eat healthy, but we’re also currently looking for the best pizza and tacos in Rancho!

10. My wife and I are so glad to be a part of the Hillside family. We were even able to join a parent’s Community Group over Zoom before we moved! Everyone has been extremely welcoming and encouraging, and we’re looking forward to living life here together.

Know a student in junior high or high school? Have them join us for SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE!

Our students are now meeting for in-person gatherings TWICE a month to worship, dive into God’s word, and spend time hanging out together. The first one is THIS SUNDAY, March 7 and the next one is Sunday, March 21. Junior high meets from 4-5:30 p.m. and high school meets from 6:30-8 p.m.
